Miranda Baardsen, 26, had a blood alcohol concentration upwards of four times the legal limit after being tested at an area hospital following an incident involving her and two others who were met by an unexpected sight when they returned home from a friend's residence in Fredericksburg early on Saturday morning.
According to a spokesperson from the sheriff's office, at around 12:15 a.m. on June 22, a deputy responded to Declaration Drive, where a woman advised that she and a friend were in Fredericksburg before returning home, where they found Baardsen laying in wait.
There was a verbal argument, investigators said, which escalated when Baardsen brandished a knife, threatened to kill the other woman, and began chasing her around the parking lot until they were able to flee the area and call the police.
Baardsen was found during a subsequent canvas of the area at the intersection of Garrisonville Road and Wicomico Drive.
"Baardsen had the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from her breath and glassy eyes," the spokesperson said. "Open containers of Twisted Tea were located within the vehicle, as well as, a knife that matched the description of the knife used in the attack."
She was subsequently taken to an area hospital for unrelated medical needs, where it was determined her BAC was approximately four times over the legal limit.
Then Baardsen doubled down.
Officials said that when she learned she would be charged for her actions that night, Baardsen "began screaming, kicking, and throwing a tantrum that disrupted nearly all staff members nearby."
Baardsen was charged with attempted malicious wounding, driving under the influence third offense within ten years with a blood alcohol content above .2 percent, and disorderly conduct on hospital grounds.
She is being held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.
